How to Create Your Own Witchy Style:

Own Your Magick.

Obviously, to dress like a witch, the first thing you’ll want to consider is whether your clothes give off a magickal feeling!

Do they feel powerful, mystical, and romantic to you? Maybe it’s the way the fabric flows off your body, maybe it’s how the colors pop, or maybe it’s got a shimmer to it…Whatever it is, the clothes you’ll want to wear will make you feel like you’re glowing from the inside out!

From the deep colors to the soft, romantic fabrics, to the carefree silhouettes…This dark but fairytale-esque aesthetic is core to creating a witchy style. It will empower you to embrace all aspects of yourself–including the parts you tend to hide in the dark.

Whether you’re spending your time brewing up potions, strengthening yourself with your crystals, seeking wisdom from your tarot cards, or just enjoying some time out in nature…A witchy outfit is bound to make you feel strong and enlightened to the little bits of magick found in simple day-to-day moments.

4 Elements of Witchy Style:

1. Dark, Dusty, Earthy Colors.

You might expect black to be the only color you should fill your wardrobe with, since Witchy style is a gothic look–But that’s not the case.

Witchy style embraces nature, emotion, and the dialectical nature of humanity. There’s so much power in using a variety of colors to express these things.

Black and white (in moderation) and grey will add to the magic and drama of your outfit, exemplifying the duality of human nature.

Brown also makes for perfectly Witchy neutral…It’s humble, down-to-earth, and connected to nature.

Still aim for a mostly dark color palette.

Witchy Style Guide Dark and Dramatic Neutral Colors
There’s nothing more powerful than the circle of life, and green represents this best. Use it in darker shades like forest or army green for quiet power, or lighter mossy greens to add some cheer.
Purple, the color of magic and red, the color of passion–especially in dark, muted, or musky tones–are also must-haves for your witchy style. They’ll assist you in finding strength and better exerting your inner-power.

2. Flowy, Asymmetric, Tattered Silhouettes.

To best embody your Witchy style, you must embrace your carefree nature and find beauty even in imperfection.

Reach for silhouettes that hang freely from your body, clinging only to your waist and chest (if at all). To add to the drama, go for asymmetric and/or unfinished hemlines. Don’t forget to layer for extra mystery! Even a vest can add a lot to a witchy look.

You’ll find lots of inspiration from the dark, gothic versions of both the popular “Bohemian” style and Japan’s “Mori Kei” (Translates: “Forest Style”). Both of them embrace a long, flowy silhouette and lots of layers.

3. Romantic and Mystical but Ravaged and Murky Fabrics.

Witchy style juxtaposes romantic, mystical, gauzy fabrics with practical or destroyed fabrics; A powerful embrace of all the “good” and “bad” of life and being human.

Try pairing graceful fabrics like lace or chiffon with more practical or tougher, rugged or destroyed fabrics like cotton, deconstructed knits, and linens (If they appear faded or stained, that’s another plus).

4. Symbols of Life, Death, and Magic.

Death is part of life. It happens to everything on this earth. Loss makes us feel a love so deep and strong that it can entirely change how we see life and what we value.

Because life is so fleeting and death exists, life is all the more precious and powerful. There is power in embracing this truth and in being #deathpositive and unafraid of the darker aspects of life.

Beauty is found in flowers, trees, and living creatures, but also in what is left behind of those things after they’ve passed.

Adding symbols that represent these things can add depth to your witchy style.

Also be sure to reach for tribal prints and old-fashioned, antique-inspired florals.

Remember: Style is Personal.

The most Witchy thing you can do is fearlessly and whole-heartedly be yourself. Adding to or changing any of the above “rules” to best suit you, your tastes, your personality, your story is paramount–Nothing else fashion can offer will make you feel as powerful and free as embracing every aspect of your natural self.

Style isn’t “one-size-fits-all” and none of us fit into a perfect little box–We all have wonderful variations that make us unique, and they can be reflected in what we choose to wear! That’s the beauty of personal style.

“It Isn’t Love If It’s Selfish” – An Outfit Representing Lost Love and Vulnerability

For so long, i’ve told myself: “It isn’t love if it’s selfish”.

There’s still nothing in me that has stopped believing that’s true.

Desire paired with selfishness is only possessiveness and in action, it’s only consumption.

It’s cruel and it enslaves. It suffocates. It disregards the needs, wants, and desires of another. It inflicts pain to all involved.

But what makes something selfish, anyway?
I’m not sure i actually know….. Is everything i want automatically selfish in my mind?… everything i think i can’t have?

The Strength of Accepting Weakness

The Strength of Accepting Weakness

Accepting weakness begets strength.

I am queen of my darkness, and equally queen of my light.

I can own my struggles, i can own my pains, i can own those emotions that feel so very close to death.

They are mine, but i am not theirs.

I can relax in who i am, moment to moment, and see beauty even in the dark and quiet.

Connecting With Emotion

Spending some extra time deciding on my outfits is my favorite way to recognize my emotions and prioritize my mental health.
Artistic expression has always allowed me an avenue to slow down, explore, and find beauty in the things i feel.
Sometimes connecting with my emotions feels like pure magic… I find power in being in sync with how i feel and accepting myself as i am.

Happiness Is Freedom

I do not believe that false “joy” and stagnant “hope” are the answer…But i do believe that happiness can be discovered in little things when you feel like it’s nowhere to be found. When we’re able to find true happiness, we gain power to free ourselves, both on an emotional level and in a way that allows us to more easily work towards our goals, which will set us free on a more tangible level.
